No need to introduce Bounty "BK" Killer, Jay-Z or Timbaland who produced this "Dirt Off Your Shoulder" Big Fat Ass Beat (I'm talking about the B side) ! I'm not a big fan of Jay-Z or Timbaland but after buying this 12" I wanted to get the original one... Unfortunately on B side it's a clean version only...!

Omar Clemetson aka Supersoul is a Jamaican born and Miami, Florida, based Hip Hop / Dub producer and founder of Metatronix label in 2001. Metatronix is known for pushing the creative boundaries while staying true to the aesthetics of hip hop and dub music. The label has released music from Supersoul, Diamond Ice, Judah Manson, Anthony B, Dejah, Stres, Capleton, Eliot Lipp, Sizzla, Induce, Nick Fury, Fat Jon, DJ Vadim, Sess, Push Button Objects, Jake Mandell, Calamalka, and others.
Back cover comment about the track :
"Jamaica has one of the highest murder rates in the world. Last year (2003) 1045 peoples were killed on an island of only 2.6 million. 133 peoples died in police killings last year. Take the example of the Breaton 7 : the killing of seven young men by a paramilitary police unit in 2001, during a raid on a house in Breaton, kingston local residents said the men had begged for their lives before being executed one by one...Having been a victim of police brutality myself in AmeriKKKa, I know these abuses of power are not unique to Jamaica... For those people that could care less about the cycle of violence created by poverty, exploitation, greed and corruption, surprise, this record was made for people just like you ! One day a hungry and desperate man , or a dirty cop will be standing on your door step with a .45 to your selfish head and, then, it will become your reality ! Consider this a friendly warning."
Love and Respect Always !

I said that I won't post full album, well, this is more a kind of mixtape than actual LP... It was done by Irie FM's DJ Mighty Mike for/with Digital-B recut of the Drumsong Riddim with, 18 tracks (+ intro) mixed...
These Nyabinghi style drums goes straight to the heart, heavy ting ! Press play, light a spliff, relax, and meditate !
This a must have for all DJ's, I don't know nothing about that 12" but this is a killer Electro track ! I heard it on so many DJ's routine without knowing who it was...
First time I heard it I thought it was kind of a remix or something like that, I couldn't believe that Yabby You recuted his own tune on a digital rhythm ! But after asking on forum I had the confirmation that it's a real YY produced LP named Yabby You Presents... New Roots Reggae, as far as I know it was done around 1998 ~ 2000.
Original version taken from Blood & Fire's Jesus Dread Compilation (192k here, it's still available everywhere, legal or not)
- Conquering Lion - Vivian Jackson (aka Yabby You)
- Yabby Youth - Big Youth
- Big Youth Fights Against Capitalism - King Tubby's
- Fisherman Special - Tommy McCook
Digital version taken from Yabby You Presents... New Roots Reggae (320k, rapidshare folder contain this one and Curtis Prophet - I Need Your Love on the same riddim)
The Rockers era (late 70's to early 80's) is my favorite when it comes to Hardcore Roots Reggae, like in 90's Hip Hop, it's kind of Golden Age of the genre, and this tune by Gregory Isaacs is particulary a heavy Roots Rockers Reggae from the legendary rhythm section The Revolutionaries.
Back to basics ! Hip Hop started with MC's, DJ's, a mic and two turntables, battling and all that... It's what M Boogie was thinking about when he produced these 12" titled On Deadly Ground and Patience, give them the same beat and let's see what they will do with it. The result is dope Hip Hop tracks with skills on the mic and the wheels of steel... This is the same concept as the Jamaicans use for a while on their "One Riddim LP's" or 7" series, you have to step your game up to shine over other heads, only the strong survive...
There's two 12" with this formula, I'll update the post later with the other tracks on Patience (and the instrumentals if requested) by Grand Agent & DJ Revolution, I didn't ripped it because even if they are good at what they do usually, they failed on this particular one... Meanwhile I post Born Allah & Melo D track on Patience beat.
The third 12" is by Otherwise (Some Other Ish), the B side (The Robbery) wasn't good enough to be on my personal compilation, same as above it will be updated when possible. Cuts are by DJ Revolution.
- Psycho & DJ Rip One - On Deadly Dround
- Iriscience & DJ Babu - On Deadly Ground
- Born Allah & DJ Melo D - Patience (I misspelled Melo D's name in the tags, sorry)
The riddim is based on Hot Milk's bassline, a famous instrumental cut by legendary Studio One keybordist Jackie Mitoo (1948-1990), a former Skatalites, Soul Brothers and Soul Vendors member just to name a few bands he was part of. Lots of riddims he created became all time classics in Reggae Music : Shank I Sheck, Drum Song, Ba Ba Boum, Death In The Arena, Bobby Babylon, etc...
This is a rip from the 2003 (or 2004 ?) 7" vinyl reissue on the US label Jah Life (or Jah Life.com as on the labels) which is, with Wackie's, one of the best american Reggae labels ever. I added the Jackie Mitoo track and another one from Rakim & Barrington Levy (not the best remix of Murderer I've heard...).
- Barrington Levy & Beenie Man - Murderation
- Barrington Ley - Murderer
- Lone Ranger - If Life Was A Thing
- Louie Ranking - God A Watch Dem
- Sanchez - The World's Greatest
- Jackie Mitoo - Hot Milk (from Studio One Rocker Complilation) *
Another big big riddim, that did well in the dances, of Black Shadow label from 2003 (they also did the Surprise Riddim which is as good as this one), produced by Troyton Rami. Released as 7" serie, of course, and as double LP via VP Records. The double LP contain a sort of remixed Soca version but I didn't find it that good (review here). I uploaded two versions of the Elephant Man cut, the 7" version intro is different than the Lp one, he just says "Deja Vu, Bun Dem Out" before the "beat" begin...
Listen and/or Download (all @ 320k):
- T.O.K - Haters
- Mr Easy - Grudge You Fa
- Kardinal Official feat Blessed - Empty Barell
- Elephant Man - Can't Gwaan
- Elephant Man - Can't Gwaan A Jamaica (7" Version)
Sad news from New York, this past days all the internet crying about an US DJ found dead in his home (DJ AM, never heard about this guy...), while only Jamaica Observer talks about Wycliffe 'Steely' Johnson who suffer from pneumonia in a NY hospital...
"Wycliffe 'Steely' Johnson, of Steely and Clevie fame, is in critical condition at a New York hospital but the music fraternity has been praying for his recovery.
"We want to keep a positive mind," Clevie Brownie, the other half of the dancehall pioneering duo, told the Sunday Observer. "The chance of his survival is slim."
Johnson is suffering from pneumonia having recovered from kidney complications in December, said Brownie, who has been in contact via phone and saw him in July."
