Bernard Collins (The Abyssinians) - Satta Don + Bongo Herman - Thunder Storm Part II (7" Clinch)

Satta Massagana is probably one of the most recuted riddim song of all times in Jamaican music. The original song was recorded in 1969 at Studio One but Mr Dodd released it only in 1971, thinking a song with Rasta lyrics in Amharic would never be a hit ! The original song is also in the introduction of the legendary movie "Rockers"...
The lyrics looks like this song was made for the dancehall but it's worth get it as it's a very good cut !
I'm not sure of the year of this cut, matrix number have no date in Roots Knotty Roots, another release with matrix DSR MML 2183-A says 1992. Bongo Herman's cut is from 1992 for sure as stated in RKR.

Real Rock Riddim (7" Dubplate Singles - 97 Crew)

I don't know how to call that, if they voiced the artists themselves or if it's a sort of blend where they take Buju and Capleton a capellas to put them on the Real Rock riddim (Jammy's version). I'm not a fan of this type of "remix" generally but here it's pretty much well done, as well as I bought this two singles years ago even if it's amateur work.
United 97 Crew is a little "soundsystem" from suburb of Paris composed by youngs turbulent dancehall cats, I don't know them but I saw videos they put on the net, nothing good to post here...

Hard Times Riddim (Gibbo Records - 2004)

There's a lot of wack riddims in this One Drop era and only a fews are worth listening/buying. Definitely this Stephen 'Gibbo' Gibson's Hard Times is one of the best that were done this past years... Stephen is the son of the legendary Joe Gibbs (1943-2008) that formed the Mighty 2 with the engineer Errol Thompson (1952-2004)
This is a rip from the VP's Riddim Driven vinyls series.

Garnett Silk - Complaint (7" Penthouse)

This is one of my favorite cut of the great Garnett Silk (1966-1994) made for Donovan Germain (Penthouse Records) label on one of the most killer riddim coming out from Jamaica : King Tubby's "Tempo" riddim (or Tempa).
I ripped this longtime ago and I'm not at home so I can't drop the version and I have no label scan under my hands other than this one... I'll post them asap.

Jacob Miller - Peace Treaty Special (Top Ranking 1978)

Back to Roots Rock Reggae with Killer Miller's Peace Treaty (1978). This era was very wild and rivals political gangs decided to sign a peace treaty to stop murders between PNP and JLP garrisons. In this one Miller name the most famous gunmens of the seventies and performed it at the Peace Concert in 1978 while he made Claudie Massop (from Tivoli Gardern - JLP) and Tony Welsh (from Concrete Jungle - PNP), ones of the most influencial gunmens at that time, shake their hands on stage. In the same concert Bob Marley did the same thing with Manley and Seaga. (Source Natty Dread N° 55)

CD III - Get Tough (Prelude 1983)

(First I have to say that my english isn't perfect so I try to be as clear as possible)

This is the N°1 record that was in my wanted list for almost 25 years ! And finally I found two vinyl copies that I bought one month ago.
I first heard it on a little Belgian radio back in 84/85 called Radio Santé while I was living at the border between France and Belgium. There was a NATO military base so I guess the radio DJ was connected with some soldiers as every weeks they were playing fresh Hip Hop. Every sunday I was waiting 4.00 PM to listen to that show while all my friends were having fun at the skating rink ! Everybody was telling me that I am crazy to listen to radio instead looking for girls with them, but they can't understand what Hip Hop meant to me at that time, it was like I was waiting for all my (teenage) life.
Funny thing is that it was pressed in France by EMI but never knew that. I always remembered the name of the group even if I was not sure how it spell and I didn't knew the title too.

Prelude is well known for Funk/Disco than for Hip Hop, artists signed were D Train, Empress, Mastermind or Secret Weapon (even, this is for french people : Martin Circus !) to name a few.

You can see the mispelling on the cover, Get Touch instead of Get Tough ! Notice that Howie Tee was member of this trio and I have read (don't remember where) that Marley Marl mixed the cut. This is the french press on EMI. When listenig to the lyrics we can heard that it wasn't only about party rhymes or egotrip, there is serious message in it !

I keep the tracklisting without the dl links.

King Culture Presents Cuss Cuss (12" King Culture / Basic Replay 12")

Basic Replay always do good reissue work with original labels on the vinyls.

Basic Channel website presentation :
"Six murderous outings for Lloyd Robinson’s immortal rhythm on this
showcase EP collecting singles produced by King Culture in Toronto and
Kingston, Jamaica, during 1980-81.
Rod Taylor was voiced in JA;
Barry Brown between both cities. Stamma was mic man for the JA sound
Taurus: this was his recording debut. Mixing was done at Tubby’s,
assisted by his apprentices Professor and Puggy (an expert with the
Delta 4 machine tape-delay).
These versions tore up dancehalls at
the time. Listen to Gemini at Skateland, with Welton Irie, Plough,
Ringo and full crew, all riding dubs."

Mass Appeal - Dub Session (12" Rude Boy Records)

Two cuts revisited by New York's label Rude Boy Records. First one is based on Elephant Man's "Pon Di River, Pon Di Bank" with guns lyrics. The other one is based on the cut "Yippy Yo" on the Perilous Riddim (Danger Zone) by Elephant Man & Busta Rhymes. Unfortunately it's the clean a capella that they remixed on "Yadi Yo"...
(I only ripped the vocals cuts even if titles contains "Dub" in them, and it's at 128 k only)

Paper Chasing feat Demarco (Star Kutt Records)
Sur le célèbre refrain de "Sweet Dreams" d'Eurythmics
avec son refrain en patois qui vaut le détour !

Winner (Asteroïd Riddim-Natural Bridge Rec)
Le titre qui l'a fait connaitre...

Medi (Intouch Riddim-Eye N Eye Music)
L'un de ses meilleurs cut !

Rasta Imposta (After Effection Riddim-Young Veterans)
